Trust Your Journey

Mindful Living

One of the biggest lessons I’ve struggled to learn is to trust the timing of my life. When I was growing up, I was convinced I’d be married with children before the age of 30. Yet, here I am at 35 with no husband and no kids.

My life seemed as if it was going in slow motion as I watched all my friend’s lives fast forward to marriage and babies. I’d sit around a table full of my mommy friends and listen to them talk about their baby’s first words, or the silly things their child did that day. I’d have nothing to contribute to these conversations, which made me feel empty and left behind. I wondered if I’d ever get the chance to share stories of my own. Had God forgotten about me while he was too busy blessing everyone else?

The irony in all of this was that the friends I envied, actually envied me. They watched me accomplish great things like achieving my life-long dream of becoming a professional writer, receiving promotion after promotion, and buying my own home with no help from anyone. They saw me as a strong, independent woman who didn’t need a man to get what she wanted. It was a freedom they didn’t feel they had. But I was too busy focusing on what I didn’t have to stop and appreciate everything that I did have.

Although that little voice of doubt still creeps up from time to time, I’ve learned how important it is to trust our journey and embrace the uncertainty.

Just because our lives aren’t the same as those around us, doesn’t make them any less magical. We all have our own struggles. All we need to do is stop comparing and start preparing.

Huge blessings are in store for all of us and they won’t come a minute before we’re ready to receive them. In the meantime, we just need to enjoy each moment as it comes.

What has been your biggest lesson in life?
