I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m engaged! It still feels like a dream, but the beautiful ring on my finger reminds me that it’s indeed very real.
My engagement was very emotional for me. All the heartbreak and disappointment I’ve experienced throughout the years made me feel like it may never happen for me. Finding the right person had felt almost impossible. But I never lost hope, and then he came along and changed my life.
Everything I’ve been through only makes me appreciate him that much more. And I know he feels the same way about me. We are the light at the end of each other’s tunnel. But in this case, it’s not the end, it’s only the beginning.
I’m sure you’re wondering exactly how my engagement took place. Well, here’s a glimpse into that part of our love story… Let’s start off by saying, if you know me, you know that I’m a huge Hallmark Christmas movie fan. I immediately jumped on getting tickets to the first annual Hallmark Christmas Con as soon as they were available. I must admit I even did a happy dance in the living room to celebrate the possibility of getting to meet some of my favorite Hallmark stars. Well, it turns out that my now fiancé saw this as the perfect opportunity to pop the question.
I went to the event with him, his son, and my sister. When we walked into the convention center, we were expecting a winter wonderland with elaborate holiday decorations, but that wasn’t quite the case. I later found out that my fiancé was freaking out inside and wondering whether he should abort his mission because it didn’t feel magical enough (I’m so glad he didn’t). We started exploring and caught glimpses of several Hallmark stars, including Lacey Chabert, Melissa Joan Hart, and Chad Michael Murray (swoon!). In the middle of the convention center, we spotted a beautiful Christmas tree. After taking some photos in front of it, we took a break to consider what to check out next. At that moment, we looked up at the ceiling and saw snow falling onto the lit-up tree. This brought a bit of the Christmas magic we needed!
We walked over to the tree to take another picture and then it happened…He turned to me and made a very sweet and profound comment about what I meant to him. It’s not very typical of him to pour his heart out like that, especially in public. So I looked at him in confusion as he reached into his pocket to grab a little black box. At this point, I realized what was happening and tears instantly started to flow. I was shaking as I put the ring on my finger; still in complete shock that this was actually happening. My sister captured everything on camera, which I’m so thankful for. Other people began to notice and started clapping, cheering, and taking pictures and videos. Surprisingly, I didn’t even mind being the center of attention, which I typically shy away from. I was simply on cloud 9 at this unexpected surprise! It was absolutely perfect.
Our engagement is the start of a new chapter in our beautiful life together and I can’t wait to see how our story continues to unfold.
