The Devil on Your Shoulder

Poetry

Poetry has always been a great outlet to help me process my pain. As I struggle to navigate through an extremely difficult time in my life, I turn my innermost thoughts into a work of art. Creating beauty from an ugly situation to try to find clarity in my chaos can be quite therapeutic.

The Devil on Your Shoulder

The man you once were has gone away
He was stolen from me and I had no say

I couldn't change you, I had no control
You chose the poison and sold your soul

I feel so helpless and full of despair
Just because we're estranged doesn't mean I don't care

I could no longer be collateral damage in your war against yourself
And you couldn't put the alcohol back on the shelf

The future we once planned has turned to dust
But now it's God's plan that I must trust

The devil on your shoulder may one day disappear
You'll trade him for angel wings soon I fear
