A Mother’s Vow

Poetry
I wish I could’ve given you the fairy tale life and kept my marriage intact
But I realized I didn’t want to normalize constantly needing to put on an act

I had a smile on my face while I was dying inside
All I ever wanted to do was run and hide

The pain of staying became too much to bear
I needed an escape from the whirlwind of despair

I showed you my strength by walking away
To reclaim my happiness I knew I couldn’t stay

One day you’ll know the scarifies I made to protect you
You’ll hear the lies that were told that were completely untrue

But most of all, you’ll know my heart has always been pure
Despite the nightmare I had to endure

I vow to teach you everything you’ll ever need to know
I’ll always be by your side watching you grow and grow

I promise to show you the meaning of unconditional love
I’ll be there for you every step of the way, come push or shove

I will show you how to treat a woman with the utmost respect
Teach you to hold yourself accountable and not deflect

I’m rewriting our story and it’s filled with love
It’s about a mother and son connected by an unbreakable bond blessed from above
