The Silent Sorrow of a Single Mother

Poetry

My beautiful boy, my shining star
I’d go to the ends of the earth for you, no matter how far

I wanted so much more for you, but it’s out of my hands
I'm doing my best and hope one day you’ll understand

I’m your mommy but stand in for your dad
And there’s nothing in this world that makes me more sad

Because he’s here, yet he’s not
He chose his demons over the family he forgot

All the weight is on my shoulders, but I can’t let myself crack
It'd be nice to have someone by my side who had my back

They say it takes a village, but I’m standing here alone
As I navigate through the uncertainty of the bitter unknown
